D'ou Belge, the brewing team of Hiperion, organizes a beer tasting on the 18th of November. You will taste up to 8 beers and you will learn to evaluate taste, smell and view by making use of a special beer tasting form. You can subscribe by mailing maes.eric@advalvas.be before November 15th. The participation fee is 15 euro.

The beer tasting takes place in Centrum De Maeseneer (Wijgmaalsesteenweg 15, Herent) and starts at 8 p.m.

From the 14th of september you can learn to dance Flamenco in 'El Mundo del Baile Andaluz', the durable dance school of Hiperion.

Lessons, for adults and for children, will be given by Flamenco Dancer Lurdes González Anera. Pilar Muñoz Grande and Dieter Burssens will take part in the committee of this great, south-spanish initiative. More information can be found here: www.elmundoandaluz.be

42 people participated at the Kaas- en Bierproeverij, organized by our brewers. The cheese dishes were very much appreciated and especially the organic beers Zwarte Madam, Gageleer and our own beer d'ou belge 11 got really good marks. And while the younger participants enjoyed an early game of stratego the older generation played cards until midnight. Cheese, beer and games... it doesn't get better than this! [Photo gallery]

With only 13 participants, this years Texas Night Poker Event was not the biggest of his kind. But, for sure, there was no lack of good atmosphere, tension and emotion. At 2h30 in the night, Simon looses the heads up against Gert, the winner of the day. He goes home with a beautiful package of comic books, and, of course, the marvelous SPT cowboy hat!

The brand new dance school 'El Mundo del Baile Andaluz' is the lastest project of Hiperion. El Mundo brings old Spanish traditions to Herent and takes care of that in the most durable ways possible. Anyone who wants to discover the world of Flamenco, Spanish guitar, and the beautiful gitana's is welcome to join the dance classes starting in september. There will be a course of 'Sevillanas' for beginners as well as classes Flamenco for children.  Read more

Due to a substantial shortage of qualitative and durable social housing, people in need have to wait years before a solution for their housing needs can be found. That's why Hiperion is starting the project 'Bel Poutrel'. The aim is to make our own contribution to the housing market by obtaining our own little house, renovate it and making it available for people who really need it.  Read more

Silke Steenwegen and Eric Maes have been accepted as new members of the General Assembly. Silke already was presented on this website when she joined the Board of Directors. Eric is not unknown in Hiperion circles either as he is the coordinator and one of the founding fathers of the brewing project. He is especially interested in the position of vulnerable people in the society. More specifically he worked on the topic of reinsertion and the guidance of (ex-)prisoners in Belgium. And during recent travel experiences in the west of Africa and in India he personally saw the distressing consequences of a growing social inequality in countries where a booming economy exists side by side with dire poverty. It was all he needed to be motivated to present his candidature for the General Assembly of Hiperion.

A new project group, with Geert, Linda, Hazel, Lourdes and Dieter, already discussed the start-up. Hiperion explores the feasability of two new projects. For a long time now Hiperion dreams of supporting the market of social housing, as there is a enormous shortage of qualitative housing for people living in financially difficult circumstances. On top of that, the housing that is offered to them often does not meet todays ecological standards. We know we can do better. That's why we started exploring the field of social housing. Before the start-up there is still a lot of work to be done, so don't expect this project lift off within the next days. Earlier results are expected of a second project that is being prepared at present. That one focuses on offering fashionable clothing that complies with the highest standards of durability and fairtrade. With some luck you might find the first Hiperion polo or t-shirt under your Christmas tree!

At the 'wereldmarkt' in Herent Hiperion catched the attention of the visitors with a striking construction site. As a 'non-profit project developer' the different projects are presented to a broad audience. A seperate stand of SAPO bubbles sold manually made soap, stain remover and washing-up liquid. At the end of the afternoon ten people had subscribed for the next workshop and another ten more asked to be kept up-to-date on upcoming Hiperion activities. Every year many thousands of women find their way to the Goed Gevoel Ladies Fair that takes place in Flanders Expo, Gent. Thanks to an invitation of the 'KVLV-vrouwen met vaart', SAPO bubbles was given the possibility to conduct three small workshops on their popular stand. The participants made their own durable multi-cleaner, and were given a short introduction on what to expect when participating in the SAPO bubbles workshops.

Silke Steenwegen becomes the newest member of the board. We are proud to present this promising, young worker and are looking forward to a captivating collaboration. Silke as well shows much ambition accepting the challenge: "From when I was young the topic of social injustice speaks to me. A student exchange program during one year in Argentine and an interesting apprenticeship during my formation gave me insights in social matters and gave me even more hunger to work for a more warm, more just world. Next to this topic, nourished by the 'green family' I've grown up in, I think it is of vital importance to work together towards an ecological and durable world. As a future socio-cultural educationalist I am excited to be part of the Hiperion team and to cooperate to their social and durable projects."

Hiperion is world famous... in Herent. In one week time, Hiperion was invited to two different events. At InspirHerent different movements and organisations were presented to many people who care very much about durability. The interest in Hiperion as a unique and innovative actor on the field was amazing. And one week later, Hiperion was invited to present our ideas at the Klimaatshow in Herent. It is clear that Hiperion becomes a well known name in Herent. And now... the rest of the world is waiting for us!
